is LUIS JACOB’S PICTURES AT AN EXHIBITION [Feb 04, 2011 - Mar 27, 2011]

Showing in three locations over 2010 through 2011, Luis Jacobs Pictures At An Exhibition features  early and recent work from Jacob.

The MOCCA purposes this exhibition to be a vision about vision. Upon visiting the exhibition I found that Jacob, much to the liking of Leo Tolstoy’s theory on the representation and responses to an emotion, places  Pictures At An Exhibition within the same school of thought. The smaller scaled pieces allow for examination of relation between the viewer and the work to take place.  I was reminded of the scene from The Matrix Revolutions, when Neo removes the bandages from his covered eyes, as Pictures At An Exhibition speaks to vision.

Luis Jacob has achieved an international reputation, particularly since his participation in Documenta 12 in 2007, with solo exhibitions at the Städtisches Museum Abteiberg and the Hamburger Kunstverein, and in Canada at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery, the Darling Foundry and Musée d’art de Joliette. In 2010 his work was featured at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, in the exhibition Haunted: Contemporary Photography/Video/Performance, and in the Kunsthalle Bern in the exhibition Animism. Luis Jacob is represented by Birch Libralato, Toronto.
