fieldwork is an outdoor art space dedicated to presenting new, site-specific installations biannually for the public to discover. It is located in a small field in eastern Ontario, close to the town of Perth, next to a gravel road.
fieldwork started in 2008 with installations by individuals from the fieldwork Collective (Susie Osler, Erin Robertson, Chris Grosset and Chris Osler).
Their objective is:
- To provide a space for creative exploration, collaboration, and exchange to occur within
- To offer artists with diverse artistic experiences, interests, and practices the opportunity to make and exhibit site-specific work in an unusual, rural, outdoor location.
- To attract and engage a wide and diverse audience comprised of people who may or may not be familiar with art and/or the ‘gallery-going’ experience (by being inviting, inclusive, accessible, and engaging).
- To broaden the opportunities for art where the outdoors is considered a gallery.
The costs of creation, installation, removal, as well as transportation of work are the responsibility of participating artists. A modest artists fee will be granted to help offset the costs incurred in the creation of the work. In the past this has ranged from $500-$700. When an artist is invited to participate, they will specify the artist’s fee in our letter of invitation. Should funding applications on the part of fieldwork not be successful, this is subject to change.
fieldwork is a not-for-profit project, volunteer-run by the fieldwork Collective. They hope that it provides an interesting, creative process and opportunity for artists and that it also provides a point of interest, discovery and learning to the public.
Information about the project, the Collective, and previous installations can be found at their website/blog www.fieldworkproject.com
The first 3 installations are found at our first website www.fieldwork.blogsome.com

EXHIBITIONS
The Beast and Her Magical Diaries - A one-night retrospective of Jesi the Elder at Videofag
Thursday February 21, 8pm
Come journey through the wonderfully warped world of Jesi the Elder, full of chimeric landforms, melting bodies, radical womanhood, sentient objects, and disarming ruptures of time and space.
Inspired by her nomadic lifestyle, The Beast and Her Magical Diaries is a one-night retrospective of Jesi the Elder's animated short films and music videos structured as a fever-dream travelogue. From Mexico to India the evening explores, anecdotally and aesthetically, the impact Jesi's travels have had on some of her recent work. Her animations are also diaries of her most traversed landscape: that of her own vivid imagination.
Jesi has previously shown work in the XPACE window in 2009-2010
